Employee onboarding and dates

Each person on the People page has their own page. Open someone from the list to see their start and end dates and their onboarding records.

Owners and admins can change both. Every other role, auditors included, sees them read-only.

The person’s page shows a Start date and an End date. To change them, pick the dates and click Save dates. Clear a field to remove that date.

  • The end date has to be on or after the start date. Keel refuses the save otherwise.
  • The dates are set by hand. A directory sync or CSV import does not change them, so they hold for people from any source.

Click Start onboarding checklist to open an onboarding record for the person. The button is there while the person is active and has no open record.

A new record starts with these steps, all unticked:

  • Accounts created with least privilege
  • MFA enrolled
  • Devices added to inventory
  • Security awareness training assigned
  • Policies acknowledged
  • Confidentiality agreement signed

Tick the steps that were done, add an optional note, and click Complete onboarding. The ticks and the note are saved at that point, together with who signed it off and when. Nothing is saved while the checklist is open, so tick and complete in one sitting.

A record can be completed once. Steps you left unticked stay on the record as not done. To run onboarding again, start a new checklist.

Completed records are listed on the person’s page with the completion date, how many steps were done, who signed it off, and a link to the evidence.

Completing onboarding files an attestation in Evidence, titled Onboarding: <name>. It lists the steps completed, the steps not completed, your note, who signed it off and the date.

Keel links it to two controls when your workspace has them: User provisioning & deprovisioning and Personnel security (HR). A workspace without one of those controls gets the evidence without that link.

Offboarding is the matching step for a leaver. It is covered in Directory sync.
